For those
in the USA where a plethora of quilt information is available, many quilters
do utilize the Internet for patterns, fabric, etc. For quilters in Mexico,
this resource becomes even more important. We can locate almost anything
we may be searching for and in many cases can have merchandise shipped
to us in Mexico – with a few words of advice on procedures. For those
who say – but I don’t have time to look – I could be quilting: Every time
you check your email, spend 15-30 minutes looking at websites. You just
may find the resources and inspiration for your next quilt!
Several websites are the “granddaddy’s”
for quilt information. These are: Use the search function on each to help locate patterns and tips. Be sure to check the links page on most sites. One or two may lead to exactly what you are looking for. Quilter’s Newsletter Magazine has a monthly column with suggested websites and a brief description of contents. FREE INFORMATION – A great source for information – quilt books and magazines in either English or Spanish are not thus far available in the Guadalajara area. Try the following sites:
www.allcrafts.com/quilting.htm GENERAL SUPPLIES, BOOKS AND FABRIC Some websites also have weekly/monthly newsletters to advise you of new merchandise arrival and also some great sales. If you don’t want you regular email account flooded with quilt email, consider a free Hotmail or Yahoo account used specifically for quilt correspondence. Many of us have had great success ordering on line and having the order shipped to Mexico via Global Priority Mail or regular U.S. surface mail. Delivery time can vary from 6 days to 3 weeks. Duty “may” be assessed but rarely is. It's recommended that you instruct the vendor to ship the fabric in an envelope to minimize the chance of Mexican import duty being assessed.
